🩸 A young Astarion reads a fairytale. Even in this memory, he cannot remember the color of his hair, or of his eyes.

You read about a dashing prince rescuing a beautiful princess from a tower, or perhaps your mother and father read the tale to you. The story thrills you and warms you —surely your life will later take such a shape, and bestow upon you a love so true as to change the very fabric of your world.

But when you look up, the faces of your parents swim out of your recollection. You know — then, now, later — that a part of the memory is missing. That this life is so far removed from you as to not be yours anymore.

🩸 While still mortal, Astarion is beaten within an inch of his life. As he lies dying, he meets Cazador Szarr, who offers him immortality. He accepts.

🩸 Upon reawakening as a vampire spawn, Astarion is forced to dig his way out of his own grave.

🩸 Astarion's "siblings" make it clear that they consider him the runt of the litter.

🩸 After having been infected with a mindflayer tadpole, Astarion sees the sun for the first time in two centuries.

🩸 During his first decade as vampire spawn, Astarion relents and lets a young man run away, and tries to run away, himself. He is caught, and locked in a tomb for a year.
